Things are lookin' to get HOT on Lake Petenwell this weekend!

With the Wisconsin Northwoods summer in full swing, temperatures may be rising, but even Mother Nature’s best efforts can’t match the points battle heating up as the Pro Watercross-sanctioned 2016 Great Lakes Watercross Tour heads into Rounds 3 and 4.

With racer set to fire up their engines and hit the starting gate at 1 p.m. on Saturday, this weekend’s double-header promises thrills, spills and fiercely-fought motos as the northeast’s best PWC athletes fight for the checkered flag and the battle for tour points.

“On July 16-17, the points battle will begin to heat up. Racers who missed the first two rounds now have lots of ground to make up,” said event organizer Scott Hyke. “Look for the ski classes to get even more competitive, with some of the past years’ winners getting back on the race course.”

The Great Lakes Watercross tour is a points-based competition and all events points accumulate toward an overall Season Championship in each class. With a total of eight rounds scheduled this year, everyone still has a good shot at the overall title to be decided in September at the U.S. Watercross Northern Nationals.

“Racers who are serious about a shot at this year’s title will have to put in some top-notch motos this weekend, and be ready to burn up the track at the Watcon.com Lake Michigan Surf Ride on the last weekend of August on Lake Michigan,” Hyke added.

“The Great Lakes Watercross Tour kicked off with some hard-fought races, and it’s shaping up to be an exciting season for them,” said A.J. Handler, CEO of Pro Watercross. “It’s great seeing all the interest and the growth in the sport not only in the northeast, but in all our regions.”

Racer signup on Saturday will open at 11 a.m., with the riders meeting at 12:30 p.m. The last race on Saturday should cross the finish line by about 6 p.m., with an awards ceremony to follow.
On Sunday, the first race will hit the line at 10 a.m., with the last race finishing around 2 p.m., followed by the awards presentation.

The Lure Bar & Grill at Barnum Bay Marina in Rome, Wisc., will once again serve as event host.
The tour will return to the Lure Bar & Grill on Lake Petenwell on Aug. 6-7 for rounds 5 and 6, with stops at Lake Michigan’s Pennoyer Park and at Lake Koshkonong in Milton closing out the season.
